Who We Are

Imani’s Light Grief & Wellness..
Reimagining healing.

At Imani’s Light, we center the care of BIPOC women and femmes as they navigate the complex intersections of grief, trauma, systemic racism, and oppression.

Traditional grief and trauma care for BIPOC Women & Femmes is rooted in systemic injustice, biases, and erasure. The disparities in grief & trauma care erase the traditions and stories that BIPOC people carry with them as a vessel for healing. We recognize that each client has various intersections & identities; therefore, we must tap into different modalities in order to traverse the unique path they are on.

We combat the constant erasure BIPOC Women and Femmes face by tapping into ancestral knowledge through healing baths, reiki, acupuncture, dance, cooking, tending the land, community meals, forest bathing, radical rest, and more.

Our care steps outside traditional talk therapy’s confines to examine grief, trauma, and loss while integrating wellness and radical rest as a core component of healing through modalities such as Expressive Arts, EMDR, and Somatic Experiencing. Our work also destigmatizes and reduces barriers to grief & trauma care while facilitating necessary dialogue within the BIPOC community on intergenerational trauma & loss.

Our Guiding Principles

Mission

To guide and support BIPOC Women & Femmes through perinatal grief, loss, and birth trauma as they identify their intrinsic paths to healing.

Vision

We envision a world free of the shackles and shame attached to perinatal grief and trauma, where healing & restoration can be safely cultivated for BIPOC women & femmes.

Purpose

Imani’s Light is a space to cultivate healing & restoration for BIPOC Women & Femmes. Our purpose is to provide individualized care that acknowledges and heals the cycle of trauma & loss and ignites an intrinsic pathway to heal themselves, their families, and communities.

We recognize that while grief and trauma have been studied extensively, only 1 in 3 Black adults who need care receive it, and Black women & Femmes are often missing from that conversation. The effects of systemic racism, police brutality, medical racism, and historical trauma are not being addressed, and instead, Black women & Femmes are being pathologized as having “prolonged grief”, written off as being “angry”, or ignored altogether causing further harm. We are dedicated destigmatizing and reducing the barriers to dedicated grief & trauma care, while facilitating necessary dialogue within the Black community on intergenerational trauma & loss.

We acknowlegde the experiences of Black women and femmes who are also Queer, Trans, Disabled, Single, Married, Polyamorous, Religious, Atheist, Teens, and everything in between. Historically, the care for Black Women and Femmes has been directive and authoritarian without input from the clients themselves, leaving them with dire disparities. At Imani’s Light, we honor the historical strength and inherent value of Black Women and Femmes and know that their wisdom is a vast knowledge source for community healing and liberation.
